When is Fantasea Harbour Hike?
Fantasea Harbour Hike 2014 will take place on Sunday 7 September – Father’s Day.
What time does the Fantasea Harbour Hike take place?
Participants will commence under the Sydney Harbour Bridge at Bradfield Park, Kirribilli to begin the hike starting from 8.00am. When you register you will indicate which half hour you would like to start.
You need to arrive at the start line at least 30 minutes before your allocated start time to be registered and collect your event kit including your event registration bib and passport and to sign the waiver form.
How long will Fantasea Harbour Hike take?
For a fit and active person to walk the course at a brisk pace it will take about 2 to 3 hours. For someone with a moderate fitness level and/or stopping leisurely at the checkpoints it could take up to 4 hours.
What is the course?
The course is 12km from under the Harbour Bridge at Bradfield Park in Kirribilli along the northern foreshore paths to Clifton Gardens Reserve, Chowder Bay, Mosman. View the Course Details page for more information.
You need to collect your Fantasea Harbour Hike passport at the start line on event day, which will have the course map inside. On event day there will also be signage and volunteer course marshals along the route pointing you in the right direction.
Who can enter Fantasea Harbour Hike?
This event is open to anyone who can access the foreshore paths. Due to the distance and nature of the event, children under the age of seven years will not be able to register for the hike.
Due to the nature of the foreshore paths, Harbour Hike is not wheelchair or prams accessible.
Dogs are not permitted on the Sydney Harbour foreshore paths.
Do children require parental permission to enter?
Children under the age of 16 require parental permission to register for Fantasea Harbour Hike. Children under the age of 14 are not permitted to participate in the event unless accompanied by an adult.

What is the Fantasea Harbour Hike passport?
It is a special booklet that you will collect at the start line at Bradfield Park. At ten checkpoints along the course you will answer questions about Sydney Harbour and its history and record the answers in the passport. The passport will also include a course map and general information.
What should I bring with me on the day?
We recommend that you bring a hat and sunscreen if it is sunny and wet weather gear if it is likely to rain. You can purchase a Harbour Hike drink bottle for a $2.00 donation at the start line and you can fill up at water stations and bubblers at the start and along the course. Wear appropriate clothing including covered footwear to participate in the walk.
Will there be a clothing/gear bag drop from the start line to the finish line?
No, there will not be a bag drop. Pack what you need for the event in a backpack and carry it with you on the course.
What can I expect at the finish line at Clifton Gardens Reserve, Chowder Bay?
There will be food and beverages available for sale, a jumping castle with additional kids activities and for a gold coin donation children get their face painted with their favourite sea animal! In addition there will be a SIMS themed area showcasing marine displays with scientists on hand to chat about the work they do and answer any questions.
How can I get back to Kirribilli from the finish line?
To board the Fantasea ferry please wait at Chowder Bay Wharf in Clifton Gardens and show your registration bib.
Who owns the event?
Fantasea Harbour Hike is owned and operated by the SIMS Foundation. SIMS Foundation has been established to provide long term financial support to SIMS. All funds raised by Harbour Hike participants go to SIMS via its Foundation.
Why was the event created?
Fantasea Harbour Hike aims to entice Sydney-siders to explore the harbour, to remind us how lucky we are to live in a city where we can walk through bushland by the water’s edge, and to raise awareness of the vital work of SIMS in helping to protect and preserve our marine environments. Fantasea Harbour Hike will also raise much-needed funds for SIMS to continue its important scientific research and community education work.
Who is supporting Fantasea Harbour Hike?
The event is presented by Fantasea Cruising Sydney in support of the Sydney Institute of Marine Science. The Sydney Morning Herald is the event media partner. The event also has community partnerships with National Parks and Wildlife Service, Mosman Council and North Sydney Council, with additional support from Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, NSW National Parks Association, Climate Friendly and Bright Print Group.
Can I “run” in this event?
Fantasea Harbour Hike is a walking event and it is not timed. Prizes are not awarded based on timing. It is not recommended that participants run the course.
If you would like to power walk please choose the 8.00am - 8.30am bracket to start when you register online, to ensure that everyone participates safely.
With the narrow foreshore paths and potentially a lot of people walking the course, trying to run through the crowd and across roads is going to be dangerous to you, other participants and the general public.

Am I permitted to ride my bike, skateboard or rollerblades etc. in this event?
Fantasea Harbour Hike course is not suitable for bikes, skateboards, rollerblades etc. There are over 500 stairs throughout the course and parts of the course pass through natural bushland, with the associated hazards of tree roots, drainage systems, uneven paths and more.
Is this course accessible for prams and wheelchairs?
Unfortunately due to the nature of the terrain, the Fantasea Harbour Hike course is not accessible to prams and wheelchairs.
Will the event be cancelled if it is raining?
No, the event will not be cancelled in the case of wet weather. Fantasea Harbour Hikers should bring wet weather gear if rain is predicted. The event will only be cancelled if the event organisers deem it will be dangerous to participants (high winds, lightening, torrential rains).
Can I bring my dog?
No, Fantasea Harbour Hike participants are not permitted to bring dogs on the course. Parts of the course use National Parks and Wildlife Service paths where dogs are not permitted as they pose a danger to the natural wildlife and bushland of the area.
Will water be available throughout the course?
Yes, there are water stations at the start and finish line and water bubblers and taps along the course for you to fill your drink bottle. For more information see the Course Details page.
There will also be stalls at the finish line where you will be able to purchase food and cold drinks. Along the course there are cafes at Cremorne Point Wharf and Mosman Bay Road Wharf also selling food and drinks.
Will event merchandise be for sale?
Fantasea Harbour Hike t-shirts will be available to purchase in adults’ ($35.00) and kids’($25.00) sizes at the start line at Bradfield Park, Kirribilli and the finish line in Clifton Gardens on event day. They provide a fantastic memento of your Harbour Hike participation and best of all, they are made from organic cotton and come from a sustainable supply chain. All proceeds from sales of the t-shirts benefit SIMS Foundation.
There will also be water bottles available for a $2.00 donation to SIMS.
Will medical support be available along the course?
St John's Ambulance teams will be located at the start/finish lines and also at Mosman Bay. If you are feeling unwell along the course please report to the nearest course marshal. If you see any fellow participant in distress please report the incident to nearest official or St Johns Ambulance team member. If it is an emergency please dial “000” and report the exact location of the incident.

What does my entry fee cover?
The entry fee pays for the cost of staging the event including all the required event permits, signage, set-up, promotion and facilities. Any fundraising or donations made by Fantasea Harbour Hike participants goes directly to SIMS Foundation.
You will receive an event kit at the start line containing your registration bib and passport. With your registration bib you will also receive a free Fantasea ferry ride from the finish line at Chowder Bay back to Kirribilli, courtesy of Fantasea Cruising Sydney.
Where do I collect my event kit from?
You can collect your Fantasea Harbour Hike passport and registration bib at the registration kiosks at the start line under the Harbour Bridge in Bradfield Park, Kirribilli from 7.30am on event day.
You need to arrive at the start line at least 30 minutes before your allocated start time to register your arrival and collect your kit.
How do I pay for my entry?
Entry fees and donations are processed through a secure online payment gateway and a receipt will be automatically emailed to you.
When does Fantasea Harbour Hike 2014 registration close?

Can I register for the event on the day?
You can enter to participate in Fantasea Harbour Hike on the day however we recommend you register in advance to avoid lengthy delays at the start line.
Can I transfer my entry or obtain a refund?
Entry fees are non-refundable as per the terms and conditions. All entries are non-transferrable as per the terms and conditions.
Do I need my parents’ permission to enter?
Persons under 16 are required to obtain a parents signature to register.
Will I receive confirmation of my entry?
All entrants must provide an email address when they register in order to receive registration confirmation. This confirmation must be retained in order to check in and collect your event kit at the start line before the event.
